The New Year seems to be flying by, and that means all kinds of programs here at The Burlington Pond are coming to and end. But don’t fear, there are new sessions starting just as quickly as they are ending, so your young skater will always be able to find a program that works for them.

Both our junior and senior houseleague skills sessions are scheduled to begin next week, which is great news for houseleague players looking to improve their skills.

The junior houseleague skills session, which is for players aged six to 10, will start Thursday, February 16 at 4:40 p.m. Taught by head instructor Greg Moore, these players will focus on power skating and puck control in a setting that will challenge the players, but isn’t quite as intense as the rep sessions. Houseleague players will benefit from the extensive edge work, learning the proper techniques of skating and working on lengthening their stride.

The senior houseleague skills session, starting on the 20th of February and also taught by Greg, is basically the same as the junior program, but aimed for players ages 10 and up instead.

Younger skaters can also hit the ice in new sessions beginning the week of February 19. With both intro to hockey and our learn to skate sessions ending on the 19th, we’ll invite a new batch of skaters ages six and up to join us on the ice for these programs.

During our learn to skate sessions we’ll focus on skating forwards, backwards and stopping. Once skaters can handle these skills, we’ll move into intro to hockey to work on edges and learning to skate with a puck.

These are all necessary skills that are part of the fundamentals of learning to skate and play hockey properly and to the best of each skater’s ability.
